casting for actors

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Is your training appropriate for total beginners?

Yes. In fact most actors with experience come to us with bad habits from previous training. We encourage first timers.

What about the business side of acting such as headshots, resumes, agents, and casting directors?
We offer periodic seminars regarding this subject matter. Commercials, television, radio, independent and feature motion pictures are covered. The focus is on how to prepare to get a job in a very competitive industry.

Where can I park?
The best and most cost effective parking is the Sutter/Stockton St. Garage located 1 block to the east of us on the Northeast corner. Since Sutter is one way, you will have to drive around the block to Grant St. and come up Sutter St. and look toward the right hand side.

What about auditing?
We offer auditing for directors and prospective acting students. Monday - Wednesday evening from 7-10pm this free one time class is available for viewing. Call ahead to ensure the class is taking place.

Is your training appropriate for directors?
Yes. In fact Francis Ford Coppola and recently Terry Zweigof (Bad Santa, Ghost World) among many others have come to learn about acting and actors for their films.

I've just enrolled what can I do to get a head start?
Inside the Actors Studio on Bravo channel is helpful. These books we suggest as well: Respect for Acting by Uta Hagen, The Fervent Years by Harold Clurman, Techniques on Acting by Stella Adler, An Actor Prepares by Stanislavsky, Actors on Acting by Cole.

Do you offer casting opportunities?
Yes. We have two theaters associated with the Lab and frequently students get cast in the productions. Also, with a plethora of film directors studying at the Lab students do get opportunities from them as well.

How are payments arranged?

All tuition must be paid before the first class. Any installment up to that point is fine. Gift certificates are available as well. We accept Visa/MC, Checks, and Cash. The Checks are made out to the Shelton Theater. Send in the Reg form with payment and this secures a place on the roster.
